| I would like to share some of my connection secrets with members (not necessarily applicants but that could change). This thread will be dedicated to the Linksys e3000 router, however should you have something else please let me know and I will try to provide the best advice possible. Please shoot me a private message if you are interested. Thanks 1st Edit: Do you have Comcast/Xfinity? Did you know you can purchase speed boosts for as little as $10.00/month? I sound like an advertisement lol - trust me I don't work for them! You can also purchase the Extreme package for $50.00/mo right now until promo ends. This gives you 50 MG download speeds and is good at that price for one year. It requires a different modem but definitely worth it. Also, there is no additional charge to rent the modem per month so if you are paying $5.00 now you'll pay the same to upgrade modems and have a better connection. At our level of gaming - we are all fairly good - so the only thing that keeps you on top of your game and better than your opponents aside from practicing is connection. From what I've been able to tell download is the main culprit, not so much your upload speeds. Edit #2: The first link I'd like to share is the Manual for the Linksys e3000 router http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/userguide/E3000-EE_UG_V10_A-WEB_3425-00144.pdfThis will give you a lot of information. Yes read the fucking manual. It always helps. I suggest specifically page 30 to start. DISCLAIMER: Before making any changes please learn how to reset your router in case you can't back online to look at the forum or google. Let me know if you have a different router or if you have any problems.

| I went out and purchased the Netgear WNDR4000 dual band and have had minimal lag issues since. Thankfully my ISP is a solid 350+ mbps and router can roll up to 450 when available.
I've been able to play with EU hosts to no consequences as well since the upgrade.
Call of Duty Black Ops: $60 Router: $199 Turtle Beaches: $129 Backstabbing a scrub on the B-flag: priceless |

| seems like it to me ... although I am FAR from the best person to ask about it.
I've been green in all my matches since the upgrade with one exception. Anytime I've been timed out of a game I've received a pop-up message blaming the COD servers. |

| Green is good Even if you have green though you can improve. For example, how many of you are running xbox live through a wireless adapter? Baaaaaaaad!!! No stabby for you! |

| I used to run wireless adapter. Now I run a wired connection. Huge difference. I been tinkering with my router, and made some progress. I have a Netgear WRG614v10. I forwarded several ports, but still can't seem to connect to some people here. I was thinking about picking up a linksys e1000 or e2000. I dont see my self blowing over 100 bucks for a router. No way jose! |

| just a heads up, theres a program called "Simple Port Forwarding" that does all of this. The only problem is, it costs money, so you can either buy it OR you can find version 2.5.0 and never update |

| Port forwarding is one of my tricks. I can show anyone how to do this if there are any questions.
If you don't want to bother with Port forwarding simply place your Xbox360 in a DMZ and all ports will be open to it. Don't worry no one is going to hack an xbox360 so who cares if all ports are open. I sure as hell don't

| Another heads up: If you get any kind of a speed boost from your ISP be CERTAIN that your router can handle it first. It makes no difference if you run 50 MB upload if your router can't handle it.
If that's case you have two options. 1) get a new router 2) bypass the router when you game and go directly from your cable modem to your xbox360
Enjoy/happy fraggin |

Shadow, there is a free version of the same software so I'm not sure which one it is. Maybe you could post the link if you have a chance. |

| Yeah, nothing I can do about that, it's the ISP... It's wither them or satellite internet which has pings of 1000-1500 usually |

| Easy fix to help avoid a problem with DNS errors, which can cause speed issues.
You'll be changing your DNS setting to the following IP addresses: 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220
OpenDNS.com is the site that provides the DNS servers. You only need to register to see the instructions which are pretty much right here if you know where to go to change the settings. |
